How to Avoid Address Correction Fees

• Validate at checkout. Run addresses through USPS Address Validation API (free) or a third-party service like SmartyStreets or Melissa Data before accepting an order.
• Prompt customers to confirm. A confirmation step showing the standardized address reduces typos and apartment number omissions.
• Clean your database. If you ship to repeat customers, run your address list against NCOA (National Change of Address) data periodically.
• Use USPS for residential. USPS does not charge address correction fees - they forward or return without billing the shipper.
