About These Freight & Logistics Calculators
LTL freight pricing is more complex than parcel shipping - it depends on freight class, density, origin, destination, and your negotiated carrier discounts. These tools help you understand freight class from density, estimate LTL rates for budget planning, calculate landed cost for international shipments including duties and VAT, and find out when a full truckload beats LTL pricing.
Freight class is the most commonly misunderstood part of LTL pricing. It is determined primarily by density - pounds per cubic foot. A shipment with a density of 30+ lbs/ftยณ qualifies for class 50 (the cheapest). Density under 1 lb/ftยณ lands in class 400-500, which can cost 5-10x more per hundredweight. Properly classifying your freight is the single biggest lever for reducing LTL costs.
The LTL vs FTL breakeven point is typically around 10,000-12,000 lbs or when LTL pallets fill more than 50-60% of a trailer. At that point, a dedicated truckload often costs the same or less while offering faster transit and lower damage rates.
LTL rate estimates are based on published carrier tariff data and are for budgeting purposes only. Get a real quote from your carrier or freight broker before booking.
